Sustainability Report, Elektrobit, Supply Chain (EN)

At the moment, it is rather quiet the communication channels of Sono Motors. So we have some time to dig a little deeper into the news beyond the usual channels.

+++ TEST DRIVES POSTPONED +++

Due to the corona situation and the current lockdown rules, the test drives have to start later.

+++ SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2020 +++

The sustainability report 2020 is out. What is striking?

  • Power consumption of 77,000 kWh. Not much for a company with 100 employees on average. Maybe the low figure is due to Corona and many people working from home. In this case, the power consumption "workforce supply chain" has been moved to the home office, out of sight.

  • Fluctuation rate: 20 %: Sounds like a lot at first, but it is common. Supermarkets have 100 % fluctuation per year, insurance companies 12 %.

  • The 27 % share of women in the workforce shows how difficult it still is to find women in the MINT areas.

Friends of industrial espionage will find the solar charge controller without enclosure on page 10. It looks pretty neat now. The housing is now black anodized - and the only thing missing is the LED for the flux compensator. Today's teaser picture is from the sustainability report.

+++ ELEKTROBIT +++

Elektrobit ("EB", a Continental subsidiary) supports Sono Motors. EB is the grand master of infotainment in the industry. "With UX & UI from "EB" and services for Android Automotive, we have contributed to Sono Motors' three-stage approach to the infotainment system. This means that every function is available to the user in a maximum of three steps - simple and intuitive".

Sono is listed between Porsche and VW on the Elektrobit customer list. Honorable mention right there. There is also a picture of the infotainment screen:

+++ SAP +++

SAP has added Sono Motors to the customer list for "RISE with SAP". From now on, Sono will be individually supported in the "Business Transformation to an Intelligent Enterprise".

+++ VALOE ++ +

Valoe (the partner for solar integration) and Sono Motors have signed a cooperation agreement for EUR 2.2 million. Valoe will support Sono with the engineering and is building a few new employees for the project in Finland.

+++ WIKIFACTORY +++

The "Parts for Future" competition to develop accessories for the Sion is still going on for a good week. The platform "Wikifactory" serves as the basis. Wikifactory claims to have almost 100,000 active users. Nevertheless, one is somehow proud that Sono is participating here:

https://www.eu-startups.com/2021/04/it-feels-like-the-right-time-for-the-global-manufacturing-industry-to-have-its-web-moment-interview-with-wikifactorys-ceo-co-founder-tom-salfield/

I can report from the competition itself that many get along so well that we want to stay in contact beyond that. The competition itself has slipped back a bit, and we are sharing our development results so that others can use that as a basis. We already have a Slack channel.

+++ TWITTER +++

New glossy pictures of the interior are available on Twitter and LinkedIn. Actually, everything looks quite solid; only the ceiling lamp still looks like straight from the DIY store, the first pick when sorting the items by "price ascending."

+++ MASTER'S THESIS +++

Julian Reimann did research on sustainable business models in automobility (sustainable in terms of the environment, not on the income side) got a master's degree in economics at the University of Graz.

The transport sector is one of the most environmentally harmful economic sectors today. In the EU, it is responsible for almost 30% of CO2 emissions and is the only sector to show rising emissions. This sector repeatedly emphasizes the potential for savings through technological progress and likes to neglect the potential for savings through reduced usage and performance savings. The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare the business models of three companies in the automotive sector that present themselves as sustainable. Our favorite startup is there, along with "RiverSimple" and "Tesla". The work is easy to process even without a scientific background. A nice read on the couch.

+++ LEFT AND RIGHT: ALONE AGAINST ALL +++

Daimler is developing its own car operating system, "MB.OS". The system is "proprietary" - which means it will be based on manufacturer-specific, unpublished standards. It is being developed independently and should come onto the market in 2024. Really, Daimler? Proprietary platform like its 1995?

Volkswagen came up with a similar idea a year ago - the "VW.OS" should be ready in about three years and be scalable from a small car to a premium sedan.

Google, on the other hand, is in the first 100,000 vehicles with its Android Automotive OS - and will have over a million vehicles in the field with its system next year. And in Asia, Harman and Alibaba have systems on the market. It will be a tough call. And I can just repeat my theory again: There were 25 proprietary cell phone operating systems in 2005. And today, we are down to two.

+++ JOBS +++

During Corona, many gained weight. The Sion, too? Sono is looking for a personal trainer for its car, a "weight management development engineer": "You will take on control responsibility for our holistic weight management. In doing so, you contribute to the achievement of our weight and consumption goals".

https://sonomotors.jobs.personio.de/job/355274

Unified look & feel: the infotainment based on Android Automotive OS should be designed the same way as the goSono app. Sono is looking for a UI designer (UI = user interface; what the users see on the screen).

https://sonomotors.jobs.personio.de/job/350134

So that the beautiful graphics can also be used, the UI designer is provided with a UX designer who creates the interaction concept, the wireframes. (UX = User experience, the customer experience on the screen in this case)

+++ TRANSPARENCY IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN +++

A new initiative is trying to make supply chains more transparent. A new "supply chain law" tries to ensure that dirty practices cannot be shifted to sub-suppliers or the upstream chain, as has been the case in the past. Sono is actively involved.

"The responsibility for sustainable mobility doesn't end with the car. We stand for a world in which human rights are respected, along the entire value chain," says Jona Christians, CEO Sono Motors GmbH.

+++ FUN FACT +++

The subject of "moss air filters" still has potential upwards. Alain Verschueren, an artist from Belgium, has further developed the topic and developed a "portable oasis".

I find it a little suspicious that "medicinal plants" are carried around in the device, but the inventor looks quite happy, which is most important.
