Prototyp test drive video, Parts for future vote closing, ANWB (EN)
Have a great and sunny Sunday! As always, here are the little news from the Sonoversum.
+++ PROTOTYPE 2 +++
Last Thursday, Sono published the video of the first test drive with the new prototype. Sono did not cut any questions from the video; all the questions that have been asked were answered. The tailgate was discussed controversially in the forums and on Facebook (trunk opens too low, opens too high, visibility). We're going to do a "part 2" prototype review with a focus on details like charging and infotainment. I will once again collect the questions again before the session. And hopefully, the official test drive tours will start again so that everyone can see for themselves.

Bloggers have also picked up the video, for example:

+++ LIVE FROM DEVELOPMENT +++
Yesterday Sono posted another update from development on Twitter. There was some criticism on the internet that the posts are only in English. I don't think the problem lies with German / English: it's technical content straight from development, and if you translate it into German, you still get specialized Chinese. The most important points from my point of view:
With the SVC3 (the next prototype), a little more space is created for the solar cells on the front cover.
eCall and antenna - tasks had to be postponed because employees are missing.
The SVC3 is working with an "ESP" (= Engineering Service Provider), and this is where the collaboration begins again ("restart").
Seat heating in the SVC2 works and can also be controlled (great, now after the test drive)
Due to the timing, the Sion has to be equipped with ADAS (driver assistance systems). There are also delays here.
The air conditioning compressor in the SVC2 probably stops unplanned every now and then.
There is a little "dissent" between Sono Fahrzeug and Sono Digital in terms of budget ("Clear Picture Needed").
The SVC3 gets a revised hydroforming (= the information display) according to Sono-Design specifications ("dual display").

+++ SION PARTS FOR FUTURE +++
The small side project" “Parts for Future” is looking for creative extensions for the Sion. The list of submissions is currently up for voting until February 23. The top 10 ideas are assigned a mentor - and then are "allowed" to implement the proposal for eight weeks.
The following ideas are currently leading:
Sion Phone Holder with "gripper arm"
'Sion Essentials': Car Maintenance Toolkit + Winter and Emergency Toolkit + Bulb Replacement kit
Detachable, foldable rubbish bin that helps you recycle
Foldable dog car grid as vertical trunk divider
Wireless charging center console cover for two cellphones
Sono's own foldable mattress, 1.90 or 2.00 m long. And precisely fitted boxes to put your camping gear and clothes in, underneath!
Modular wallbox for bidirectional charging
Illuminated door edge protection
Sion "PowerPlant": a small flower pot with a light that shows the charging status of the Sion - for your home: in the kitchen, in the living room.... blue for charging, yellow for solar charging, red for charging errors ...
Fixation for a bike in the trunk
(iSPY Interior Mirror OR iSPY Interior Mini-Cam)
(Rear wheel arch cover (spats or skirts)
(Tent at trunk lid (to sleep and camp with the car)
(Ambient interior LED lights)
The last four would currently not be in the next round. Voting is still ongoing. I have also submitted something, but I am not saying anything not to distort the vote.
After eight weeks, an internal team at Sono selects the top 5 implementations, and the community then decides on the final winners.

+++ SHOWTIME +++
The CES production in the "Eisbach Studios" in Munich was visually stunning. The film crew who did this now revealed itself:

+++ IN THE PRESS +++
The Badische Zeitung reports on the trend towards solar roofs using the example of Aptera, Lightyear and Sono:

+++ LEFT AND RIGHT +++
E-mobility really takes off. “Volkswagen sells more e-cars than Tesla in Q4 / 2020" made headlines in recent days. The headline is a little misleading, as Volkswagen also counts Plug-In Hybrid vehicles, but impressive none the less. Sales of “electrified” vehicles in Germany by a whopping 351% in 2020 (because of the government subsidies). Also, ID.3s are also used for weshare and VW has registered a lot of vehicles for their own use (up to 30% of the total number).
China remains the country with the greatest electric range, with 183 million km, followed by the USA with 48 million km. By far the largest increase was recorded by the German market: In the past twelve months, the range has more than quintupled to 38 million km. In 2020, more electric vehicles have been sold in Europe than in China.
+++ JOBS +++
Four new jobs, freshly hired on Thursday:

+++ ENVIRONMENTAL ZONE +++
In the Netherlands, the first cities are planning to ban combustion engines entirely from their inner cities:

+++ FUN FACT +++
Fun fact from the european leaders on electrification: the Sion has been included in the route planner of ANWB (the automobile club of the Netherlands) . So if you want to simulate a trip from Trollhättan via Noordvijk to Munich, you can start here - and also have campsites displayed along the route.
