#35 (EN): Open House, Citizen Lab Munich, ACC
Have a beautiful Sunday! Today's blog is a little shorter, I'm on my way back from vacation. Thanks to Asti for structuring and adding to the text.
+++ OPEN HOUSE +++
IAA 2021 takes place in Munich. This years theme is “mobility of the future”. The IAA will take place from September 8th - well shieldedin the exhibition center for the petrolheads - and everything related to sustainability is located in the city, spread over various event locations.
A blue-red-white net s already mounted on the Odeonsplatz on behalf of a large premium OEM. It symbolizes the consequences of the earthquake in Chile in 2010, which shortened the days by 1.26 microseconds - and is intended to symbolize the forces of nature. Well… ok.
Greenpeace, Attac, and over 30 other groups have planned counter-events to point out other great forces of nature - that are important to all of us. Sono does not participate officially at the IAA, but also wants to contribute - and invites you to the “Open House Event” in Waldmeisterstraße, a whole four days.
“Unlike most cars, the Sion is designed to be shared. What that means in concrete terms and how it works in real life, you can experience at the Sono House event between September 8th and 12th ”.

+++ CITIZEN LAB WITH LAURIN +++
The “Citizen Lab” will take place at Marienplatz in Munich from September 7th to 12th. Entrace is free and there is an “attractive program of interactive workshops, exciting talks and art”.
On September 8th, Sono will be there: in the early afternoon, Johann Horn from IG Metall Bayern, founder Laurin Hahn from Sono Motors and Christine Kugler, climate officer for the city of Munich, will discuss the topic of "Climate protection vs. growth: how sustainable is that" Business model of the car manufacturer? "

+++ SONO DIGITAL +++
Das Team Digital from Sono reports on Twitter about the last digital sprint on August 27th:
⊙ Bluetooth Low Energy gives access to the Sion without an internet connection
⊙ More Infotainment user testing
⊙ Rentals for cars that don't have a telematic device are tweaked and optimized

I like the screen on the picture very much. Too much, actually. I assume: what we see here on Twitter is Photoshop - and not a real picture from development. If you google for “Android Auto Split Screen”, the first picture that comes up is from Reddit - navigation from “Oak Grove Avenue” and the song at 3:18. Exactly the same that can be seen on the development device. This is a mockup.
What the screen does illustrate very well, however, is what navigation will look like in the Sion. And what I - as advisory board member - can definitely confirm is that the three points from the Twitter message are real and being worked on for some time. Some features are on development for months, and some of it are working already. I still find the sharing function for existing vehicles an exciting addition.

+++ SPRINT REVIEW +++
The new Sprint Review published from development. Lots of little highlights, few blockers currently. Can also be due to the vacation time, nobody wants to open a barrel with a minimal occupation by assigning a red in the spring report. Project managers are only human too.
- WLTP measurement carried out with the SVC2.
Does that make sense to do these with the current SVC2? It's not really that important to me personally. The decisive factor is the SVC3 with the final LFP battery.
- New charging flap: manufacturing process coordinated with NEVS.
Yes! This is what we want. Pictures for the community please!
- Redesign of the aquarium and leaf screen
Aquarium and leaf screen? Is that the same as the “moss filtration dioram” or “greenhouse”? We are looking forward to the filter deco potential.
- The rear camera will use ethernet protocol for image delivery. We were working so that like most rear cameras we'll use LVDS. Ethernet hub needs to be added to a schematic diagram.
Welcome to the real world. It's good that there really are no longer any doubts about the use of a rear-view camera. Low Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) is an interface standard for high-speed data transmission. Ethernet? I can already see how the hobbyists will attach an Ethernet socket to the Sion at the back instead of the camera for additional “services”....
- Keyfob concept phase started | first design will be presented in 4 weeks to the team.
Since the sprint report is now almost four weeks old, the first concept should be presented next week.
- Active cruise control planned for SOP. The adaptive distance control to the vehicle in front (ACC) comes with the start of production, Noice! That's what many people whish for, easily line up behind a truck on the motorway. We'll see how much it does in city traffic. And finally, the Sion allows you to “take the bus” on the highway: drive behind the Flixbus, activate ACC for easy cruise control, and try to find the free wifi from the bus in front of you….
- Final software update on Salt and Pepper: HVAC unit (flaps, fan, heating, cooling) finally fully functional. The air conditioning works in both prototypes.

+++ FORD F-150 +++
Henry Fords Model T and Sono Motors Sion have in common that every customer can have the vehicle in any color, as long as it is black. One of todays Ford company cash cows is the F-150, the truck for the Lone Star Cowboy. Ford had announced that it would bring the F-150 as an all-electric car, the “F 150 Lightning”, and the outcry from the hillbillys between Denver and Dallas was great, although the “King Ranch” leather upholstery remains available.
Ford was now even more astonished when over 120,000 pre-orders in a short space of time. The production volume had to be doubled without further ado. Perhaps it is also due to the Platinum option, which includes an onboard converter that can deliver 9.6 kW. The electricity can be accessed either via the charging port in front of the driver's door or sockets in the interior, the loading area or the Frunk to power electric tools on construction sites. Very impressive. On the other hand, it shows the massive potetioal of the 11kW “Vehicle to Load” that can be provided by the Sion. F-150 for the city.
+++ FUN FACT +++
A solar car of a different kind comes from China. The solar panels (680 W in total) are attached as a roof itself, two passengers sit underneath. The “vehicle” is controlled with a joystick-like controller. Two headlights have been attached to the top. The result is called the “Sightseeing Car”. A third passenger can somehow squeeze in at the back, he doesn't get an extra seat. Top speed 30km / h and a 1.2 kWh battery, which should last for four to 8 hours of driving pleasure according to the manufacturer. The device is available for $ 1,550, but there is no approval or crash validation of any kind. And another downside: minimum oder quantity is 100.
