#26 (EN): Emstek, Powertrain, Merchandise

Have a nice Sunday! Today with a report from Emstek - from the community-organized meeting.

+++ HIGHLIGHT +++

More and more details of the construction of the SVV (SVC3) appear in the net. We suffered with some parts in the last sprint reports, like the SCCM (Steering Column Control Module). Laurin now shows some detail pictures of the build in a tweet series.

+++ COMMUNITY MEETING NORTHWEST +++

Josef invited to the small Reservieret meeting in Emstek near Cloppenburg. Very nice round. To everyone's surprise, "Mr. Kabelbaum", Frank, from Sonos came by, who lives nearby and was able to report some exciting details.

Sono was kind enough to lend me a pre-series side panel with PV so that we have something to touch, on Monday I'll bring it back to Bertrandt.

Topics of the round included:

  • Sono points

  • Sound system: was praised - little new since. What is the status?

  • PV integration based on the sample.

  • Car sharing app improvement. Really great idea from the round: instead of private vehicles, unused fleet vehicles from public utilities and municipalities could be made available. These are just standing around on weekends, and could be made available to citizens. There are already examples where this is done.

  • Technical and legal information about the 11 kW AC Bidi

  • Reservation/customer number for new reservers

  • The group agrees that the Sion should not have a delay now.

  • Make possible components (e.g. ACC/stand-off cruise control) retrofittable if possible, but it should not fail on something like that to still start production in 2023.

  • The detailed films on the technology are well received.

  • The desire arose to tune how the Sion sounds when driving slowly via the AVAS sound (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System or "vehicle warning sound generator"). it really sounds "out there" when the Sion is demonstrated. And best somehow not on the laptop, maybe during the test drives.

Thanks again to all and to the really interesting exchange, the good ideas and questions - and the delicious food. Some of the points I can take right away for the next appointment at the Sonos to the Interior.

+++ POWERTRAIN +++

There's a whole film series about the construction of the prototypes. Sono has compiled all previous episodes in a playlist. Max from Sono asked good questions to Oliver again this time, who informs comprehensively. Episode #5 Powertrain is available since Friday.

+++ SPRINT REPORT +++

A new Sprint Report (week 20) is here. Just the highlights - we have so many topics this week.

  • "After firm comes loose": four weeks ago we were still making fun (ever so slightly) of the torque that probably didn't fit in some places. This week, the Sprint Report headlines right at the top, "Definition of Torque Value - DELETED." Credit where credit is due. Praise.

  • "Customs clearance of battery components for 3 pack assembly completed". Imagine the prototype is ready but the battery is missing because components are stuck in customs. Fortunately, doesn't happen. The battery is not shipped as a whole for SVV (SVC3), but disassembled. At least for three cars, the components are through customs now, so no one has to push the SVV (SVC3) off the stage.

  • "Moss testing and geometric change for future SVCs/series." The moss showcase will get another facelift later.

  • "eSIM shipping to hangsheng DONE." Hangsheng is a specialist in vehicle connectivity and telematics systems. Supplies among others Mercedes. Apparently, they also deliver for Sono.

  • "Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) supplier onboarding." ADAS will become mandatory in mid-2024, and the supplier will be integrated into the team.

+++ FUN FACT +++

Merchandising is not easy when the product is not ready. Sono itself doesn't like promotional items because in most cases they just end up as garbage. In NRW this is known as "Stehrümchen".

CleanElectric at least has T-shirts in the old Sion design ("hanging headlights") in their store. In the podcast episode #151 with Daniel Bönnighausen, there is a report about Sion fan articles from about minute 5:15: https://podcastaddict.com/episode/141356078.

By the way, Lightyear does merchandising with the crash pieces from the tests. Saves the scrapping costs. Also an idea.

Have a nice vacation, for some it's already starting - and stay healthy!
