#23: 429W, Discharge Limit Electric Frog (EN)

Sunday is Sono News Day. This week everything is focused on solar integration. It was shown on all channels that all panels in the prototype are now connected and supplying energy.

+++ 429 WATT +++

The videos show an output of up to 429 W while driving, which would correspond to a range of around 2.86 km per hour with a consumption of 15 kWh. There are many discussions as to whether that is enough or not; it's impossible to say from just one number. 429 watts is a new record, but not the end of the development.

+++ VIDEO +++

On Youtube, there is a 10-minute video with details on solar integration. I find the spot at 2:14 is interesting. You can see that the solar elements have recesses at the back, perhaps to dissipate heat:

There is a small surprise interstitial hidden in the video: Laurin and Jona deal with the various communication channels and clear up some discussions:

+++ TEST DRIVES +++

Unfortunately, the current Corona restrictions still do not allow solid planning for information events and test drives with private individuals. Events with only press representatives are "B2B appointments" and can be carried out with a standard hygiene concept (testing and masks). It starts on June 9th in Munich and then on to Hamburg and Berlin.

+++ LEFT AND RIGHT: IONIQ 5 +++

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has an optional solar roof and can therefore also charge its high-voltage battery. Jürgen Sangl from Landsberg, Hyundai salesman from the very beginning, parked the Ioniq 5 outside for two hours in a partly cloudy environment, achieved 223 Wh, and calculated an additional range of 5 km per day. That corresponds to 112 W from the solar roof; the 429 W from the Sion are a different game.

Now you can do the math: The Sion covers the 5km in two hours, the Ioniq 5km in one day. Of course, the values cannot be compared; they are just snapshots in a random environment.

+++ APP +++

Sono Digital has shown another screenshot of how to set the "discharge limit." You specify a minimum range, for example, 80 km, that should remain in the vehicle; the remaining energy can be discharged.

You can also choose the connector that is to be released. I would remove the option to select the plug. It's just a source of error. If power-sharing is enabled, then all ports should be active, and as soon as the user is drawing power from one outlet, the others can be disabled.

+++ JOBS +++

As already reported, Sono is implementing SAP. SAP itself pointed this out in its quarterly report. In addition, Sono is now hiring a "Basis Administrator" to develop system solutions for business-critical areas in the SAP ecosystem.

+++ PRESS +++

The "Münchner Merkur" asks: "Sono Sion: Does the cheap solar car from Munich have a chance?

Spoiler alert: the author doesn't know.

Another article was published yesterday by the Ippen publishing group. The same question was asked more precisely: "Does the Sion have a real (!) chance?". The answer cannot be found in the text either. The story of Sono is still being written.

+++ FUN FACT +++

Lightweight electric vehicles (LEM) keep delivering surprising products. A well-known example is the Renault Twizy - the cute two-seater for inner-city use. A sub-class of the LEM is the L6e vehicle type, limited to a maximum of 45 km / h. Due to the restriction, the area of application is very limited.

The "electric frog" from Berlin is new in the L6e segment for € 4,490.00.

For 449 € extra, you get a solar roof for the "frog ." No motorway. The solar system only sports 150 W peak, which cannot be compared with the Sion. But it shows one thing: solar is coming.
