#2/2021: CES, SEV subsidy in NL, Hyperscreen (EN)
+++ HIGHLIGHT: CES +++
Last week we correctly predicted the dates at CES when the prototype would be unveiled. In the meantime, these have also been officially confirmed:
Tuesday, January 12th: 7.45 pm - 8.15 pm CET - Trailblazing Mobility: The Solar EV of the Future
https://digital.ces.tech/sessions/78894c9e-1e23-4eb8-a847-67e2a0adca55
Wednesday, January 13th: 7.45 pm - 8.15 pm CET - Garage to Global Innovation: Is SEV the new SUV?

Since the CES is aimed at corporate customers, the transmission is not visible to everyone free of charge. If I can somehow get access, we'll do "live blogging" here. Otherwise, we just have to wait until the press embargo ends and the video appears on the web, which should be ready a few days later.
+++ FINAL PREPARATIONS +++
On Twitter there was a picture of the shooting for CES (I “borrowed” the picture for today's teaser picture). You can see Mr. Hausch, a Sion prototype and a camera crew that is being filmed by another camera crew.

+++ IN THE PRESS +++
Ecomento summarizes the goals of Sono at the CES: Attract investors, gain awareness, and new reservations. Laurin is quoted in the text: "The next generation of the Sion prototype is just the beginning. We look forward to continuing our progress to deliver the first solar EV for everyone."
The English press is also tackling the issue. The last sentence in the article interesting:
- "The first model is planned to enter production in Q4 / 2022." (Start of production is planned for Q4 / 2022). Q4/2022 is a different date than the current one on the homepage.
- "The Sion is expected to have the lowest TCO (total cost of ownership) in its category." In terms of total costs, the Sion is said to be the cheapest vehicle in its category. The goal seems to be new, or at least it hasn't been communicated that way.
I already have over 40 other reports on CES and Sono in my dropbox. There was nothing new in any other, so I'll spare you that.
+++ SEV SUBSIDY +++
In Holland, there has been a new e-car subsidy for e-cars with a solar roof ("solar panel permanently attached to the vehicle") since January 1st, 2021: up to 36% of the purchase price is subsidized for companies - up to an upper limit of € 75,000. Funding is only available if at least 1kW peak is installed on the vehicle. The rules are such that currently, practically only the native Lightyear is qualified with the one. Fisker Ocean (860 W), Toyota (140W), and everyone else gets nothing. The Sion, with its 1.2 kW peak solar performance, would be there. The regulation (G 3111) seems to be a bit controversial on site. In any case, I find it remarkable that this is the first time that a "SEV" is explicitly mentioned in funding programs.

+++ JOBS +++
Daimler unintentionally supplies Tesla with top engineers thanks to generous severance payments. An engineer can collect up to € 275,000 if he leaves. Stefan Schwunk from the "Schwunkvoll" youtube channel made it over to Grünheide from the Mercedes factory in Bremen, just like the Mercedes engine factory manager from Berlin - and many others. Daimler is subsidizing the Tesla personnel search with several million.
Sono is also looking for: a whopping 28 jobs are currently available, some of them even several times. New jobs have been added:
"Sono Digital" is looking for:
- Full-stack developer for the Mobility Services backend (everyone is looking for that)

- Mobile app developer: The Sono app will become a central component of our vision: "Sustainable. Mobility. For Everyone.".

The “vehicle engineering team” is looking for:
- Vehicle Architecture Manager: Complete vehicle package, component design, construction guidelines up to series production.

- Integration Engineer E / E: You manage the complete fulfillment of the Design Verification Plan

About Daimler / Tesla:
+++ FUN FACT +++
The design trend for 2021 is "Glassmorphism." Everywhere in 2021, we will see "frozen glass" digital surfaces in the style of Windows Vista. Daimler Marketing is at the forefront here. Yesterday, Daimler presented its new infotainment system in the run-up to the CES. Ola Kälännius, the CEO, can even walk over water during the presentation. Strictly speaking, there are three small screens in one large housing, Mercedes calls it "MBUX Hyperscreen" (after Tesla has occupied "Giga" and "Super" already). That, the relation to the CES, and the presentation itself make it the fun fact of the week:
